		<description>Hi guys -

I know that this isn&#039;t a &quot;presentation skills&quot; class persay, but last week I attending a presentation workshop and thought I&#039;d share some of the high level pts that I learned to help people become more relaxed and effective when presenting. I need to credit Cara Hale Alter of Speechskills for these suggestions:

The Basics:
-Have a balanced stance
-Use gestures -- it&#039;s the natural thing to do
-Speak louder then you think you need to
-Speak slower than you think you need to
-Be expressive and articulate every word
-Hold eye contact with each person in the audience for 3-5 sec

&quot;Derailers&quot;
-Filler words (um, and, so etc)It&#039;s better to just pause and regroup
-Extraneous movement
-Emphatic gestures
-Keeping your chin too high or too low
-Self correcting (&quot;I&#039;m sorry&quot; &quot;I didn&#039;t mean that&quot;)

Hope this helps people feel more comfortable doing their pitches!
